Reports to: Co-Directors of the Employee Benefits Internship Program
Learn what it means to be benefits consultant through a comprehensive 10-week training program with the opportunity to interact with Lockton associates, insurance carriers, and Lockton clients. Training topics include skills necessary for day-to-day work functions as well as developing a broad range of life and work related skills. Assist Lockton associates on key initiatives including carrier/client correspondence, marketing projects, account servicing and client service plans. Develop strong relationships both internally and externally, and attend at least one client meeting during the course
Essential Duties: Provide and coordinate administrative support to unit, including returning phone calls, coordinating presentations, carrier/client correspondence, copy jobs, overnight mailings, binding jobs, graphics, etc. Assist with financial reporting for annual renewals, mid-year reviews and monthly claim reports. Request renewals from carriers for all lines of coverage. Assist with all marketing efforts as assigned by benefit associates, including development of Request for Proposal (RFP), carrier follow-up, and production of marketing report. Assist in producing employee communications (newsletters, bulletins, overhead presentations, etc.) as assigned by benefit associates. Develop ownership by familiarizing self with contracts, booklets, communications materials, and administrative materials, company cost sharing strategy and benefit schedules. Maintain permanent master files (keep current SPDs/certificates by client for each line of coverage, including revised documents/amendments), financial binders, agency management system and accounting records at the direction of the benefit associates.
Other Responsibilities: Attend internal meetings/education programs. Participate in Lockton’s benefit training program.
Education, Experience and Skills Required: Student must have completed Junior Year Studies (Internship to be completed the summer prior to entering Senior Fall Semester). Grade Point Average of 3.5 or higher in field of study. Business major or liberal arts majors related to business. Housing is not provided by Lockton; Securing housing is student’s responsibility. Excellent computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet expertise. Familiarity with PowerPoint preferred. Ability to complete simple mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Strong customer service skills. Multi-task oriented. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to speak in public. Ability to prioritize effectively. Status as a currently enrolled student. Legal right to work in the United States.
