The James Madison University Libraries are hiring for a part-time position on the Library Services Supervisor Team to supervise evening desk operations while providing excellent customer service to a diverse population of library users at both Carrier and Rose Libraries.

This is a part-time wage position working an average of 20-25 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits. The schedule consists primarily of regular 9 p.m. – 2:30 a.m. shifts, but could include helping to cover shifts in the mornings, afternoons, evenings, and/or some late nights and weekends as needed. During exam weeks, the schedule will include required overnight shifts.
Duties and responsibilities include: provide outstanding customer service, proactively supervise Library Student Assistants and effectively oversee building operations during shift; adhere to and enforce library policies and procedures; offer directional, informational and technical support to library users; accurately collect fines and check materials in and out using the library's circulation system; and effectively open the building and secure the building at closing.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to be flexible depending on the university and library calendars. Hours may not be available when the university is closed or on breaks.
Competitive candidates will demonstrate excellent customer service and supervisory skills, intermediate computer skills and an ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Applicants must be dependable, pay strict attention to detail, effectively interpret and apply policies, have proven ability to work collaboratively, work with minimal or no supervision, use sound judgment in managing problems and emergencies that could arise in the building and be able to work independently as well as part of a team. Supervisory, library and cash register experience is preferred.
