The University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK) seeks applicants for the position of Head Coach Men's and Women's Track & Field/Athletics Compliance Director.
Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Coach Duties:
Coach intercollegiate men’s and women’s track & field, recruit as permitted by NCAA rules, conduct on-the-field teaching and coaching. This position requires frequent travel, work in the evenings, on weekends and holidays.
Position statement: The Head Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Coach oversees the day-to-day operations of both programs; specific responsibilities shall include, but not necessarily be limited to the following:
Major duties (Essential Functions):
•Coaches intercollegiate M&W Track & Field
•Collaborates with the Admissions Department and Recruiting Coordinator in recruiting student athletes
•Plans, arranges, and directs team practices, travel, and competitions
•Mentor, advise and track academic eligibility regulations for student athletes
•Manages the care of team equipment, uniforms and training gear
•Maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License
•Assists with transportation by driving team vehicles
•Work closely with Athletic Trainer for student/athletes care and prevention of injuries
•Arrange competitive game schedule within budget limits
•Assists in developing alumni athletic events, community relationships, and fundraising opportunities as appropriate.
•Represents the University at professional meetings and other special or public events
•Functions as a member of the University community by accepting special and committee assignments as requested by supervisor.
•Coordinate off-season training program
•Other duties as assigned
• Prepares supply orders and operates within the departmental budget.
The primary responsibilities of the Compliance Director includes, but are not limited to, the following duties:
•Monitoring and ensuring compliance documentation review, audits and observation in the following areas: all facets of recruiting (including official visits), athletics personnel, playing and practice seasons, awards, extra benefits, amateurism, eligibility, student-athlete employment, outside competition, social networking, and camps.
•Directing the continued development of UMFK’s compliance rules education program by producing appropriate materials for athletics department staff, student-athletes, and boosters, updating UMFK’s Compliance Manual and Student-Athlete Handbook, maintaining website content, disseminating NCAA interpretations, educational material and legislation items as necessary, and presenting at compliance educational sessions with athletics department staff and student-athletes; completing internal and external transfer requests; assisting with rules interpretations, preparation of waivers and rules violation investigations as needed.
•Overseeing the completion of required federal, state, conference and institutional reports and records requests relative to the Athletics Department.
•Serves as the primary liaison to the Admissions Office, Registrar’s Office, Financial Services, Student Affairs, Residence Life and Faculty Athletic Representative. Serves as a Sport Administrator for UMFK’s current NCAA sponsored teams. Responds to interpretive inquiries of NCAA and University policies.
Track & Field Qualifications:
•Certified as personal trainer, behavior change specialists, and certified as a speed, agility and quickness specialist from the National Academy of Sports Medicine or equivalent certification.
•Three years of experience in developing training plans for weight, speed, agility, quickness and cardiovascular training.
•Three years of experience in training athletes in all aspects of sport, including technical, tactical, physical and psychological components of competition.
•Experience in evaluating individual performance as needed with the intention of overall improvement.
•Motivating and fostering a positive, cohesive team environment, prepared teams for the physical aspects of competition.
•Holds a current valid or ability to obtain a (CDL) Commercial Driver’s license and be an authorized and approved university driver based on the driver administration policy.
•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university required.
•Ability to know NCAA Division III rules and interpretations, as well as have the ability and understanding to use NCAA website tools, and other computer applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, and database).
•Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally to various constituents.
•Possess strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability take initiative, to effectively complete time-sensitive matters, and to multi-task under minimal supervision.
•Demonstrated aptitude in working efficiently with student-athletes, coaches and officials.
•Have a demonstrated commitment to high ethical standards
•Five years of experience in recruiting students for an institution of higher learning.
•Five years of experience in evaluating high school and college transcripts.
•Experience as a collegiate athlete.
Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the salary range is $40,000 to $50,000 plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan.
